Director of Training 0-3

Director of Training Sharlyn Smith, an international trainer, presenter and AMI examiner, lives in Juneau Alaska. She holds AMI diplomas at both the 0-3 and 3-6 levels and has more than 25 years of classroom experience as well as having been a Head of School. She earned B.A. degrees in Japanese Language and Literature and International Affairs from the University of Colorado and holds a M.Ed. in Montessori Education from Loyola University. Sharlyn enjoys spending time outside; hiking with her dog, scuba diving and snowboarding. She spends her free time traveling with her partner, John Erben and daughter Rachel.

Director of Training 3-6

Dr. Larry Quade is the Director of Training for primary courses at the Montessori Training Center of St. Louis as well as the Montessori Institute of North Texas and previously at Houston Montessori Institute. Larry has been a teacher at both the primary and adolescent levels, a Pedagogy Advisor and Head of School. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in anthropology from the University of Kansas, was a tenured Associate Professor of Anthropology at Washburn University of Topeka, and is an affiliate faculty member at Loyola University Maryland Graduate School. Larry worked closely with AMI and The Montessori-Pierson Publishing Company on editing Maria Montessori's 1913 Rome Lectures, which book was launched at the Portland Congress in 2013.  He holds the Pedagogy Position on the Board of Directors, Association Montessori Internationale, Amsterdam.

Trainer 3-6

Lakshmi Shekhar is the Trainer for Primary courses at the Montessori Training Center of St. Louis. She is AMI certified at both primary and elementary environments and has more than 18 years of classroom experience in private and charter schools. Lakshmi is the founding guide of the Children's House at the Montessori Lab School at Grand Center. She holds a Master's degree in English Literature.
